Would you like to know more about Boxcitement subscription boxes?
Boxcitement create monthly mystery boxes, aimed at people who love unusual gifts - whether giving, receiving or wrapping them. Our boxes are crammed with exclusively designed stationery, jewellery, homewares and simple craft projects, as well as accessories such as pens and stickers - and every month is a surprise.
If you've ever browsed the pages of Not On The High Street or Folksy, you will be aware of the increasing popularity of quality British made gifts created by UK artisans. Our mission is to put all of the delight that buying from these sites brings into one letterbox-friendly box every month. We aim to surprise and intrigue our customers, who can either keep the contents for themselves or re-gift them along with the premium stationery and wrapping accessories that we include – so we like to say that every box is useful as well as lovely.
Boxes follow a different theme each month, and will contain some or all of the following: cool stationery, quirky jewellery, simple crafts, home accessories, cards and wrapping goodies. In essence, we're a giftshop in a box delivered to the door every month.
Boxcitement are a small team with creative backgrounds – from advertising and graphic design to fashion design and fine art – and we wanted to start a business that fulfilled us creatively, and gave us the opportunity to funnel that creativity into producing quality gifts and stationery directly rather than for other suppliers.
We looked at models similar to Not On The High Street and Folksy, where talented folk can list their products and receive broad marketing exposure, but we wanted to try something new and a bit different; that was when we discovered the subscription box industry. We were instantly hooked! Having seen how the subscription box model was growing in the US and was being introduced in the UK, it seemed a good opportunity to combine our creative skills with a growing and popular type of business. The targeted and more personal nature of the subscription box business also fits well with our knowledge of and belief in social media as a way to connect with our customers and grow a community with our subscribers at its heart.
After several months of extensive research, testing, prototyping and play, we settled on the name Boxcitement and the core contents of our boxes. We believe they represent excellent value for money if you take into account that all our designs are exclusive, made in limited editions and unavailable elsewhere - we regularly sell out which means our most popular subscription boxes are only available for a short time.
Our boxes cost £16-£19 per month depending on the length of subscription – customers can pay monthly or save money by opting for a three, 6 or 12 month subscription. Boxes can also be purchased as one-offs for £20. All prices include UK postage and subscriptions can be cancelled at any time.
Our main point of difference is that all our products are designed by us in-house; we don’t commission other illustrators or designers or curate third party products which means our designs can only be found at Boxcitement and are produced in limited quantities. This hopefully means we appeal to anyone looking for something a bit different and exclusive – and allows us to come up with quirky and creative themes where the only limit is our imagination, and the size of the boxes we use!
Our subscription boxes fall into the 'mystery box' or 'surprise box' category, meaning our customers don't know what they will be receiving. We make sure our themes and designs look very different from one month to the next, while maintaining a cohesive style that you can only achieve by keeping creative control.
We also like to combine traditional methods like letterpress printing with cutting edge techniques like laser cutting, and we use premium papers and cards from artisan paper merchants as much as we can, so our quality and attention to detail is something we pride ourselves on. With our team all having design backgrounds, we have also done some unusual things like designing our own font and creating free printable downloads which customers can access by signing up to our newsletter; this enables us to create seasonal and personalised messages, and to provide value-added material in quiet periods between our monthly deliveries.
We are very active on social media, especially Instagram and Pinterest where we are building up a loyal and engaged following of creative people. We have found that people are very loyal to their subscription boxes and love to share images and stories, especially when we include crafting projects.
